February . . . Writing Prompt
This month we'll be focusing on "the scene".
Choose an emotional event, anything that has emotional repercussions. Examples: two lovers breaking up, a woman finding out she's preganant, a child realizing his sibling has run away.
Write the scene from the outside of this event: as an observer or detached narrator.
Then . . .
Write the scene from the inside of the event: with a close POV, from first or third person.

January . . . Writing Prompt
For January, let's go somewhere new . . .take a stroll over to my blog and read part 1 of "Write This, Not That." Then come back . . .
Back already? Great! Now here's your challenge:
Write about a New Year's Resolution gone bad -- really bad -- without using the obvious . . .
Avoid:
- resolution
- New Year
- 2012
- happy
- bad
- worse
Before you begin, make your own list of words or pre-fab phrases to avoid, then go for it! You'll be pleasantly surprised at how telling your left-over, non-obvious words will be.

November Writing Prompt
Use the cliche "drown your sorrows" and write a scene or a story in which the words, the tone and the content revolve around a character drowning his/her sorrows without ever using the phrase "drown your sorrows." Remember, no alterations of the phrase are acceptable either.....no "drowning your sorrows," no "sorrows were drowned," etc.
This is a chance to use alternate words for drowning and sorrows or to create word pictures that convey drowning, sorrows, etc.
Get creative!

October Writing Prompt
2 Plus 1 Prompt
Write a scene (or a story) in which two characters are discussing something that happened over a year ago. One of them cannot remember the incident, but the other can.
Then, add a third character to the mix . . . but here's the challenge: this third character must be non-human. Non-human can be the setting, the weather, an animal, a spirit, a Smurf . . . anything that is non-human but has a definite voice in the scene.
Don't forget to use all the senses when writing: taste, smell, sound, touch, sight!
